Career Insights: Q&A with King Chi Yau

King Chi Yau is a registered Clinical Psychologist and Music Therapist, working primarily with children and young people (CYP) and their families within the NHS. His work focuses on supporting the psychological needs of children and young people with complex medical conditions.

He has a particular research interest in the psychological factors associated with fatigue and pain in paediatric inflammatory bowel disease (PIBD). He was recently awarded an NIHR Predoctoral Fellowship to investigate these areas further.

Alongside his clinical and research work, King Chi serves as Assistant Professor (Teaching) and NIHR Senior Research Fellow at University College London (UCL). He also works as a sessional lecturer at UoN and UCLan London.

About the Session

Students on the Mental Health and Wellbeing programme, as well as the Psychology programme, are invited to gain career insights from experts in the field to enhance their understanding of the different ways in which individuals can support others experiencing mental health conditions.

Career Insights: Q&A with Sabrina Alam

Sabrina Alam is CEO and Founder of Matter Space and Defence and serves as Space and Defence Lead within the University of Luxembourg’s SnT Technology Transfer Office, where she works at the intersection of space, defence, innovation, and technology transfer.

Previously, Sabrina held leadership roles across the space sector, including at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, the European Space Agency (ESA), SES, and BDO, contributing to strategy, sustainability, and major space-related initiatives in Europe.

With a background in Theoretical Physics, a Master’s degree from the International Space University, and an MBA, Sabrina combines technical expertise with strategic leadership. She also lectures internationally on space and sustainability and is actively involved in mentoring and supporting emerging talent in the sector.

Alongside her professional work, Sabrina chairs the Space and Defence Working Group at the British Chamber of Commerce for Luxembourg and contributes to international initiatives, including UNOOSA Space4Women.

About the Session

Students on the Business and Computing programmes will gain insights from Sabrina Alam, enabling them to develop an understanding of how she has built her career and how computing skills are applied within her field.
