Dr Kristina Zeljic (Cozma)

Lecturer

I am a Lecturer specializing in neuroscience, with a research focus on brain imaging, perceptual processing, and psychiatric disorders. My work also explores the mathematical modelling of visual and decision-making processes.

I earned a PhD in Neurobiology from the Institute of Neuroscience in Shanghai in 2021, where I was a President’s Fellow with The World Academy of Sciences. Following my PhD, I completed a postdoctoral fellowship at City St Georges in London, working under the guidance of Drs Michael Morgan and Joshua Solomon, and later at Queen Mary University of London with Dr Isabelle Mareschal.

In addition to my research, I am deeply committed to creating socially responsible spaces within academia. I am passionate about environmental sustainability, animal rights, and creating an equitable and diverse education system. I strive to integrate these values into my teaching, aiming to foster critical thinking and encourage students to consider the broader social and ethical implications of science and knowledge production.

I have lectured on a broad range of topics, including neuroscience, computation, eye movement analysis, psychophysics, biological psychology, research methods, and social psychology. 

Md Nuruzzaman (Zaman)

I am a Senior Lecturer of Computer Science with experience demonstrated in a career spanning more than 15 years in Higher Education and the Apprenticeship sector. My key areas of expertise are Information System curriculum design and development (in Software Engineering, Data Analytics and Machine learning), Software project management and delivery of Apprenticeship Programmes, among others. As a senior lecturer of Computer Science, I do lead on programme/module development and innovation; ensure that teaching/coaching is underpinned by appropriate research and scholarly activities with well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.

Dr Anthony Agbonasevbaefe

Anthony Agbonasevbaefe has a PhD in Marketing from Anglia Ruskin University Cambridge, an MBA from Cardiff Metropolitan University, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from University of Greenwich, London. 

 

He has more than a decade of industry and boardroom experience working in Quality Assurance, Research and Product Development, followed with stints in Logistics and Journalism. Taught Academic skills and a wide range of Business and Marketing Modules over the years at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Has over a decade experience of teaching in further and higher education and is a certified Pearson Standard Verifier.

 

He is also a Trustee and member of the Board of Directors of the Christian Charity  – BMS World Mission.  Anthony brings a lot of practical industry experience that enriches students learning in the classroom. His research interests are customer engagement/fulfilment, leadership, organisational performance, and governance. He is an avid Manchester United football club fan.

Dr Nazia Mansoor Ahmad

Nazia did her BA in Economics with Management at the University of Sussex and later completed her PhD in Economics at the University of Kent. She has been teaching in the higher education sector for the last 18 years and is a Fellow of the Higher Education academy. Nazia’s main field of research is economic development primarily around themes of household decision making and women empowerment. Her published work includes a paper in the Journal of World Development in 2021 and Journal of Demographic Economics in 2018.

Hussein Al-Kassmy

Hussein is a highly experienced educator with over a decade of expertise in the field. He holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Information Security and Computer Forensics and a Postgraduate Certificate (PGC) in Computer Security. His deep knowledge in these areas has made him a valuable asset to the academic community.

Currently, Hussein serves as a Senior Lecturer at UCLan London, where he teaches and guides students pursuing a BSc (Hons) in Computing. His role involves imparting theoretical knowledge and helping students develop practical skills that are crucial in today’s tech-driven world. His passion for education and commitment to fostering future professionals make him respected among his students and colleagues.

Chinwe Atumuto

Chinwe Atumuto is an accredited Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), and has completed her PGCert in Higher Education as her commitment to maintaining academic standards and enhancing students' learning experiences.

 

She is a module leader for Child and Adolescent Mental Health and teaches on both the Psychology and Mental Health and Wellbeing programmes. She has prior experience in teaching Health and Life Sciences and Public Health programmes, as well as supervising research for various institutions. Her specialist interests are in child psychology, mental health and wellbeing, education administration, and evidence-based practices such as applied behavioural analysis and discrete trial teaching methods. 

 

Her most recent industry experience involved working in a Child Psychology service. She has prior industry experience facilitating programmes and interventions aimed to support children, young people and their families namely: Whole Child Therapy, Applied behavioural analysis (ABA) & Verbal Behaviour (VB), Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), Makaton Sign Language, “Chatter Time” family group intervention in partnership with NHS Guys and St Thomas Hospital; and Natural Environment Teaching (NET). She has led school-based programmes such as “transitioning” and “friendship” group sessions and has engaged in community action by running workshops for young people in a community centre

Dr Christopher Bell

Chris recently finished his PhD looking at the impact of social media on body image and motivation. Prior to this he also completed an MSc in nutrition, a PGCE and a BSc in sports studies. Chris has published academic work in the fields of psychology, sociology and health sciences and has a keen research interest in the relationship between social media and health and wellbeing.

Chris teaches across mental health and wellbeing and psychology and is the module lead for mental health and the media. He has AFHEA status and is passionate about teaching and learning in social sciences.

Dr. Adina Bozga

I am a psychologist with a strong passion for mental health and leadership interventions. Throughout the last 20 years, I have designed and delivered academic programmes and also bespoke workplace interventions tailored to the unique needs of organisations within both the public and private sectors.

Dr. Rafaela de Brito

Rafaela started teaching in higher education in 2011, while doing her PhD at the University of Southampton. Since then, she has taught on a range of courses in Portugal, Spain and the UK. Rafaela enjoys teaching research and academic skills at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Her research interests include academic literacies, academic integrity and teacher education.

Diana Chaplin

Diana has 20 years experience of teaching in Higher Education and holds a Senior Fellowship with Advance HE. Diana started out in Primary Education and discovered her passion for therapeutic education whilst working with young children with diverse health and learning needs. Having studied at Master’s level in Education and Therapeutic Dance/Movement, Diana is now applying what she has learned to promote personal growth and Well-being through her creative educational practice.

Szilvia Csaki

Silvia is a Lecturer of Computer Science with over 6 years Computer Science teaching experience in the higher education sector.  

Her key areas of expertise are curriculum design, development and delivery of lectures and tutorials for modules in Software Engineering, Databases, and Information Technology.  

She has industry-based experience in data management with SAS programming and digital marketing. 

Silvia Duedal BA(Hons); BSc(Hons) MPhil(Cantab); MInstLM; FHEA

Silvia joined UCLan with a diverse array of qualifications & experience: BSc Behavioural Science; BA law; MPhil (Cantab).

She headed the Industrial relations at Singapore University setting up joint ventures, worked with Franco-African Mission de Coopération en Afrique, Niger; and Service de Santé Navale as a trainee medic for the Ministère de la Défense; Bordeaux, France. 

She has vast international experiences across 3 continents, including working for United Nations, Copenhagen, Denmark, as a Procurer for UNDP & World Bank. Research with the NHS; MRC Cambridge and Cancer Genetic Unit, Cambridge University linking ATM gene with BRAC 1 & 2 as precursor for Breast & Prostate Cancer leading to the publication of Cancer Risks and Mortality in Heterozygous ATM Mutation Carriers in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. 

Dr Jo Holmberg

My background is within Developmental Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience and my research focus is on Resilience and Depression.

 

I have a PhD in psychology and cognitive neuroscience from Brunel University London, an interdisciplinary master’s degree in Child and & Youth Studies from University West, Sweden, and a master’s degree in Developmental Psychology from University of Kristianstad, Sweden.

 

I am also an active researcher, and I currently conduct research on identifying biomarkers of resilience and depression in culturally diverse populations, using neuroimaging techniques (EEG) and machine learning based analyses

Kelvin Ing

Coming from a snowsports background, Kelvin Ing is a performance psychologist trained in person-centred therapy and cognitive-behavioural therapy with experience working with elite athletes in a range of sports and esports as well as professional poker players. He is currently the team psychologist for the British biathlon team and runs his own performance psychology consultancy Mental-fi Ltd, where he applies his knowledge and expertise in sport psychology to help athletes as well as professionals in other fields (e.g. finance, corporate, law, medicine and more) enhance their mental performance and improve mental wellbeing using an integrative, humanistic and holistic approach. 

Kelvin teaches using a pragmatic student-centred pedagogy and his teaching experience is mainly in research methods in psychology, but he has also taught in other core BPS areas of psychology as well. He has taught at other universities including Glasgow Caledonian University and Hult International Business School. Kelvin holds a masters of science in psychology of mental health as well as a masters of science in sports and exercise psychology and he is currently undertaking a doctorate in psychology. Kelvin is a member of the British Psychological Society and an Associate Fellow at Advance HE. 

Cordelia Jones

After growing up in Gloucestershire in South West England, Cordelia studied an undergrad in Languages and History of Art at the University of Birmingham. After some years living and working abroad, she returned to the UK to complete a PGDE and a Masters in Education. She has worked in various education settings both in higher education and beyond in the UK, Europe and South America.

Dr. Teng Guan Khoo

Teng Guan is UCLan London’s Academic Director responsible for quality and student experience having spent the last four years involved in array of critical developments with ARU London and UONL. 
Teng Guan was a Senior / Principal Lecturer based with the Faculty of Business and Law with ARU (Cambridge and Chelmsford) between 2010 to 2019, including last four years as the Deputy Head of School for Economics, Finance and Law. He was also the partnership manager for the Faculty of Business and Law, primarily responsible for operational and management of the Trinidad, Malaysia and Singapore associate colleges, and ensuring compliance with the quality and student provisions.  
Teng Guan holds all his qualifications from Anglia Ruskin University, with both his PhD and LLM specialising in the area of racial discrimination in sports. He lectures on the area of business law and currently acting as an law external examiner for UK HEIs. He has successfully supervised several PhD research students to completion and also involved in examining PhD students in his capacity as both internal and external examiner.  

Agnes Kosek

Agnes Kosek is a Lecturer in the Child and Young People’s Mental Health and Global Perspectives in Mental Health programme. She has previously taught educational psychology, clinical psychology, and psychopathology at the University of Greenwich, as well as on the Primary Education and Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS) Initial Teacher Training programme, where she mentored early years practitioners in line with Ofsted and teacher standards. 

Agnes has taught both postgraduate and undergraduate students and has over 10 years of experience as a teacher in primary schools and early years settings. She holds an MA in Philosophy of Education from UCL and is currently preparing to pursue her PhD there. Her scholarly interests include the misrecognition and historical misrepresentation of ethnic minorities and children with disabilities in political discourse, and how this influences the practice of psychologists and pedagogical decision-making in classrooms. 

Agnes is an Affiliate Member of the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Pedagogy at IOE, UCL. Her research focuses on moral development and the importance of just and ethical encounters between educators and students. Her work spans the fields of critical pedagogy, inclusion, diversity, social justice, psychoanalysis, epistemology, developmental psychology, clinical psychology, moral psychology, and political and moral philosophy. She is deeply inspired by the works of Aristotle, Iris Murdoch, W.E.B. Du Bois, Franz Fanon, Paul Standish, John Vorhaus, Daniel Vanello, and Miranda Fricker.

Dr. Grace Suk Man Leung

Grace is a dedicated educator and experienced social worker with over a decade of frontline experience in family and school settings in Hong Kong. During her time as a social worker, she encountered and addressed a wide range of needs, which has deeply informed her teaching and practice. Grace has taught at various universities in Hong Kong, offering courses such as Social Work Skills and Practice, Working with Families, Theories and Practice in Counselling, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and coaching final-year students on their projects.

 

Currently, Grace teaches Safeguarding in Practice, where she strives to equip students with essential knowledge and skills for working in health and social care settings. She is passionate about inspiring her students to develop compassion, commitment, and dedication in their work with vulnerable populations.

Dominic Ng

Dominic has a BA in English Studies for the Professions from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and an MA in English Linguistics from University College London.  He also read a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

 

He has spent over 10 years in Hong Kong developing, coordinating, and teaching vocational and academic English courses.  He is especially experienced in teaching students at Foundation level.  Dominic is now the Module Lead of Research Skills and Module Coordinator of Professional Development Skills

 

Dominic has moved to London in 2023 and is interested in digital learning and sociolinguistics.

Lilian Onuegbu

After 11 years working full time in Reuters (now Thompson Reuters) I decided to embark on a career in education and was fortunate to use my work experience from the ‘square mile’ to facilitate student learning.  My teaching career started in February 1995 in further education, part time, where I taught economics, management and business subjects in various colleges including City & Islington, City of Westminster, South Thames College and the College of Haringey, Enfield and NE London.  I started teaching in higher education from 2011 within Middlesex University, Roehampton University and Birkbeck, University of London as well as other private educational establishments.  In addition I have always taught English, Mathematics, Academic Writing and I worked as a teacher trainer on the following courses:- Access to Teaching, Access to Education, PTLLS, CTLLS, DTLLS (now AET, CET and DET) and the PGCE.  Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses I have been a personal tutor, module leader, senior lecturer and dissertation supervisor on BA, BSc, MA, MSc and MBA courses. 

 

Having a mild obsession with metacognition, I am currently interested in human capital theory and policies that are being established to ensure that bias in AI is minimized or eliminated.  

Andy Otaqui

Dr. Stephanie Parsons

Stephanie joined the university after completing her PhD in 2020. Her research focuses on the organ donation process and patient experiences of illness. She has collaborated with organisations such as NHSBT to develop understandings of recipient and donor family experiences. Stephanie teaches across health-based courses and is the Course Lead for Mental Health and Psychology. 

Samara Rahman

14 Years of FE and HE experience across various departments; Social Science, Health and Social Care, Integrated Counselling & Psychotherapy, Social Work and Early Years in Education. I trained at the Tavistock Portman NHS Foundation Trust – MA In Emotional (Psychoanalytic) factors in learning and teaching: Counselling Aspects in Teaching.

Mother of 2 young adult sons who have been my inspiration throughout my professional journey. Their continuous feedback helps me reflect on my role and how best to support my students move forward successfully with their learning in achieving their goal. 

Ben Reid

After graduating with a degree in English from Oxford University Ben spent time working as a freelance writer as well as with the BBC and House of Lords. He started teaching in 2003, working in Asia, before moving into EAP. He was a senior lecturer and module leader of the Academic and Professional Skills Module before becoming Deputy Head of School. 

Dr Saeed Seraj

Saeed Seraj holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Brighton, with expertise in malware detection, cybersecurity, and machine learning, particularly focusing on Android malware. He has contributed extensively to the field through high-impact publications in leading journals and conferences.   

 

Saeed has a strong background in research and teaching, including postdoctoral experience at Royal Holloway University of London and roles at the University of Surrey and Nottingham Trent University. He has taught modules on cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and malicious software while actively contributing to innovative research on software security and Android malware detection.  

 

Saeed is committed to inspiring students and advancing research that addresses real-world challenges in computing.

Austin Sher

Chloe Southon

I joined UCLAN London in January 2025 as a sessional lecturer in psychology. I teach on the Mental health, Wellbeing, and the Individual module. I have previously taught a number of different areas including research methods and statistics for psychology, developmental psychology, and cognitive psychology. I completed my BSc in Psychology and MSc in Child & Adolescent Psychology at University of Greenwich, and I am currently completing my PhD in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at King’s College London.

My research is focused on executive function, motor skills, and academic achievement, particularly in populations such as people with neurodevelopmental conditions and those who were born preterm. I am also passionate about improving access to higher education for students from working class backgrounds. I hold Associate Fellowship with the Higher Education Academy. 

Anita Steinberg

Anita is a qualified Occupational Therapist, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, with specific interest in mental health and dementia. Anita’s academic qualifications are in the areas of Occupational Therapy and Dementia Studies.  Her varied clinical and research experiences have led her to work across the UK, Vietnam and Australia.  

 

Anita has gained extensive experience in UK Higher Education having worked in a range of institutions, holding various academic roles from Senior/Principal Lecturer, Course Leader, Deputy Head of School, Head of Department, to her current role as Academic Director – Education.  

 

Anita’s research interests lie in the innovative educational approaches to enhance learning and engagement and fostering compassion within the workplace. Anita holds a PgCHEP and Fellowship of the HEA.

Jane Weller

Jane is a university lecturer and website content writer.

 

She has a background in intelligence analysis and corporate communication skills training (e.g. in-house with Shell plc and the Sara Lee Corporation) and has worked across Europe, the Middle East and the United States of America. Her academic qualifications are in Law and Applied Linguistics (Programme Evaluation and Assessment).

 

She has extensive experience in U.K. Higher Education and has worked with students at pathway, undergraduate and postgraduate levels; specifically, but not exclusively, on their research, academic and professional skills development. She has also studied, trained and worked in testing, with a research and practice focus on assessment interviews.

 

Her ongoing research interest lies in how undergraduate students construct their academic identities while they are preparing, and being prepared, to become professionals in their chosen field.
