Careers Autumn Updates
30/10/2026
Welcome to Autumn
The weeks seem to fly by - as does the warm weather. On the bright side (no pun intended), the festive season draws closer with more Careers activities taking place.
The highlights of September were the extended drop-in appointments offering Level 5 and 6 students scheduled chats covering specialist topic areas including support for those on the mental health and psychology courses interested in exploring career pathways, professional accreditations and access to work experience. Discussion included useful information from the National Careers Service Careers advice - job profiles, information and resources | Get careers information and advice, the British Psychological Society Homepage | BPS (particularly important given UCLan London’s recent BPS-accreditation approval) and not to forget, our own resources via the Career Zone and VLE.
October brought opportunities for Computing students with Careers Clinic support focused on the latest in AI and Cybersecurity roles from Prospects How to get a job in AI | Prospects.ac.uk, Train for a cyber security career: UK courses, skills and salaries explained | Prospects.ac.uk, access to leading industry-informed resources including quizzes from the BCS Career Quiz - Which Tech Career is right for you | BCS and wider information on work experience both on site and remotely, namely Forage Free virtual job simulations and career prep | Forage, Bright Network Graduate Careers For Bright Minds | Bright Network and LinkedIn Learning LinkedIn Learning: Online Training Courses & Skill Building.
As we move into November, the Republic Careers Fair is sadly no longer taking place given conflicting schedules for employers and other commitments from the Republic team. Hopefully, the Careers Fair will take place next year to support students with industry knowledge and roles.
There remain more Careers activities across November; the extended drop-ins will make a comeback in Week 8 (Week commencing November 9) and in Week 11 (Week commencing November 30), the Careers service will deliver small group workshops for students still seeking support towards the end of the trimester.
Until then, I wish you the best with your studies and assignments – I look forward to seeing you soon.
